Preserving Farmland Since 1984
The Ag Land Trust was one of the very first farmland preservation trusts established in California. It was created specifically to serve and benefit farmland owners, to limit farmland loss from “city and urban sprawl”, and to financially help our agricultural community.
Increasing Awareness
Ag Land Trust's primary goals are to protect irreplaceable farmlands and to increase the awareness of farmers and ranchers about the use of conservation easements and other legal strategies for the protection of their agri-businesses and their way of life.
Partnerships
The Ag Land Trust has had the honor of partnering with dozens of farming families to protect their ranches and farms through the use of conservation easements, cash grants, and creative funding and tax planning strategies.
Agricultural Heritage
Local governments, agencies of the State of California, divisions of the federal government, and even the California Legislature have formally acted to participate with and promote the Ag Land Trust to preserve California’s precious agricultural heritage.

Vital Mission
It is the purpose of the Ag Land Trust to assist in the preservation and protection of all productive and important agricultural, open space and historical lands in Monterey County (and adjacent areas). Such action will contribute directly to the social, cultural, environmental and economic well being of the County while enhancing its unique character as a desirable place to live and work.
